Teaching Philosophy
Music reveals personality and the inner world and allows us to express ourselves without using words. To me, being a teacher means enjoying the challenges of preparing learners for the world of music by sharing my own experiences as a lifelong learner.
I have always had the desire to do something for my country Ukraine, especially during my time at New England Conservatory and the United States. In August 2023, I organized an exhibition on Ukrainian history, culture, and music in the NEC library and went on to organize two benefitconcerts showcasing Ukrainian and American composers. I also conducted the NEC’s WindEnsemble when we performed “The National Anthem of Ukraine” in Jordan Hall last year.
In addition, I was the President of a private music school for two years (2020-2022), which
enabled me to develop my leadership experience and organization skills. I’m dedicated to
helping, whether this is fundraising for my country or teaching young musicians how to improve their craft.
I enjoy collaborative work during rehearsals as much as the one-on-one coaching where I can discuss with students their musical choices, wishes, and preferences. Each person’s role is valuable and the individual approach where each student has goals to meet is just as important as learning to work together. Being in a music school allows students and me to work as part of a team, develop active listening, and collaborate creatively to grow students’ confidence and resilience through caring instruction and personal coaching. My philosophy is based on the emphasis on building trust and relationships, keeping high standards, and reaching ambitious goals.
