SUMMER MUSIC THEORY WORKSHOP

LEVEL: Two levels offered
Elementary: 5:30-6:30pm
Intermediate: 6:30-7:30pm
SCHEDULE: Mondays July 10th-August 7th
5 week class with final project
REQUIREMENTS: in class participation and at home completion of assignments and gradual work on final project
Fitting in all aspects of being a musican into a 30-60 minute weekly lesson is a huge challenge, and in needing to use all that time to learn our instrument we might not have enough time to focus on musicianship skills!
A summer theory workshop is a wonerful way to works on these integral skills without eating into your regular lesson time. The benefit cannot be understated for helping studnets of all ages to better finetune their ears, and improve basic fundamental skills! We call it our workshop because we will be truly hands - and ears - on in both solo and group activites.
Theory workshop will focus on:
ELEMENTARY LEVEL: (0.5 -1.5 years of lessons)
Confidence in reading, clapping, and counting rhythms including quarter, half, dotted half, whole, and 8th notes through solo and group exercises
Improving notation understanding through fun art projects
Basic ear training and listening skills
A small composition project (12-16 measures) to present at the end of the workshop
INTERMEDIATE LEVEL: (2+ years of lessons)
Confidence in reading, clapping, and counting rhythms including all from elementary level plus sixteenth notes, triplets, and dotted values
Fine tune notational understading through score study and abstract notation
Aurual skills including intervals, melody audiation, and rhythmic dictation
A composition project (20-30 measures) to present at the end of the workshop
